Living Things
Created during 3 month residency at Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in South Korea, June 2026. Violin performance of Black Orpheus by Danniell Gahui Ong.
Part of the Dinosaur Opera project, Living Things examines how humanity situates itself in the world. We have a need to separate ourselves from the animal kingdom, something we do at our own peril. The installation includes a dinosaur made from the castoff of human activities, and a video loop featuring vistas of dead civilizations and current vacation footage, all inhabited periodically by CGI dinosaurs, while Danniell Gahui Ong performs Black Orpheus. The video runs forward in the front of the gallery, and backward in the back of the gallery, suggesting an endless cycle of creation and decay.
