The legend of Scylla and Charybdis describes two fearsome creatures that sailors must navigate in the Strait of Messina. Men chose their doom between a six headed hydra and a voracious whirlpool, both once beautiful nymphs, cursed by those who resented their beauty and ambition. In a setting mere miles from the Strait of Messina, Le Mostresse is told by the monsters who never had a choice. Part of The Dinosaur Opera project, Le Mostresse explores how humans interpret natural phenomena to confirm social prejudice.
