Work > Murals

This mural, which I painted in Friesland, was a new style for me. I painted it while on a homestay through Workaway, a program that pairs travelers with hosts who provide food and lodging in return for various work projects. My host in the Netherlands wanted to create a magical reindeer room. I don’t depict animals that often, so I paid close attention to this reindeer; and I’m proud of him. The biggest challenge was making the wooden support beam look like a tree (which my host also wanted). After a lot of staring at the wall before I started painting, and hours of sewing dollar store autumn leaves onto a spool of twine, I am proud of that too.
