Video and Animation
Jon Graham Burge is a convicted felon and former Chicago Police Department detective and commander who tortured more than 200 criminal suspects between 1972 and 1991, in order to force confessions. This video, compiled by the Chicago Torture Justice Memorial Project, surveys the history of the case against Burge from 1990 to the present day (2011).
The Chicago Torture Justice Memorial Project invites artists and those who seek justice of all kinds to submit proposals for a monument to memorialize the Chicago Police torture cases. Their goal is to honor the survivors of torture, their family members and the African American communities affected by the torture. The monument will also recall and honor the nearly two-decades long struggle for justice waged by torture survivors and their families, attorneys, community organizers, and people from every neighborhood and walk of life in Chicago.
